The Unwanted Visitor: Portrait of Wildfire art installation is a tribute to the Texan land and residents that were devastated by raging wildfires last month. Although the silhouette of these fiery sculptures looks like the flames that licked the land just a few short weeks ago, they are nothing like actual fire. Instead, each ‘flame’ is made out of colorful Crayola crayons.
Created by crayon sculptor Herb Williams, who is based in Nashville, the Unwanted Visitor: Portrait of Wildfire art installation is located at the National Ranching Heritage Center at Texas Tech University in Lubbock, Texas. This symbolic display adds some vibrancy to the otherwise bland, brown landscape. Like wildfire, it will change as the hot Texan sun beats down on the sculptures, melting them.
